The Snack Bar: A Review of My Taste Testing

The snack bar can sometimes be the only thing standing between you and eating your arm. So its a good thing to know the different kinds, and what to look for. I personally eat a snack bar per day because breakfast is an on the go meal for me. Here is a run down of 10 of my go to snack bars to help me stay full and on track!

Vega Snack Bar

The Vega Bar is the only plant based bar that I really enjoy. You know how sometimes the plant based products can taste like dirt? Well this Vega Bar, especially the chocolate caramel one, tastes like a snickers bar. It has a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat while having the added benefit of also being a good source of greens and vitamins. #winning

Power Crunch Bar

These are seriously my addiction. Power Crunch bars taste like those wafer cookies, you know the vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate kind you used to mow down on as a kid. My personal favorite flavor is salted caramel, because it almost tastes like flavored coffee. There is not a single flavor of this bar that I don’t like. Higher in fat and protein, lower in carbs. They do contain artificial sweeteners however. That is not a big issue if you get most of your foods from whole sources.

Larabar

A whole food bar that is chewy and tastes delicious. My favorite are the lemon and lime flavors because of the tart flavor, but again I haven’t met one of these bars that I don’t like. Larabars are really great because they don’t melt like some of the coated bars do. I usually keep a stash in my car, so I am never without a healthy snack bar option!

RX Bar

The RX bars are another in the lineup of whole food bars. I haven’t been able to try all of the flavors, however I am here to tell you that the blueberry and the chocolate sea salt are winners. These are great because they have no added ingredients, no artificial sweeteners, and as the package says no B.S. These also don’t melt in the heat, so they are good to keep in the car for easy and delicious on the go snacks!

Fitjoy Bar

These protein bars are serious winners. They don’t have the chalky taste that many bars do, and they are delightfully chewy! I have tried just about every flavor and there is not a single one I don’t like. My favorites, not pictured, are the lemon and the raspberry truffle! Fitjoy bars are high in protein, moderate in carbs, and moderate in fat. A great bar all around!

Julian Bakery Bars

If you struggle to get your fiber in, these bars are for you! They have a very different texture. If you want something that is going to take a while to eat, then these bars are perfect. They are extra chewy, a little hard, but they have excellent flavor. They can give you some gas due to the amount of fiber in them, so I tend to eat only 2-3 per week. My favorite of the Julian Bakery bars is the blueberry tart!

Oh Yeah! One Protein Bars

I am not going to lie, these bars are my LEAST favorite. They taste pretty chalky, and just have a weird texture in my opinion. However, they are low in sugar, and I have heard a lot of people speak favorably about them. So that is why they are on this list. ONE bars are low in fat, moderate in carbs, and high in protein.

Musclepharm Combat Bars

These are included because they are my boyfriend’s hands down favorites. I personally like them, but the outside crunch isn’t my favorite. The flavor is right up there with the top. The Combat bars are crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The peanut butter ones are the best in my opinion!

Kind Bars

Kind bars are an all around excellent bar. They have the fruit and nut variety, a cold pressed fruit bar, and a grain bar. I use the grain bar sometimes as a pre workout snack as they are high in carbs and low in fat. Again, the blueberry ones are seriously to die for. I really like the kind bars because they taste excellent and have a HUGE variety. You can check out the fruit and nut ones here, the grain ones here, and the cold pressed ones here!

Balance Bars

These bars are just an enjoyment. I tend to use these as treat bars at the end of the night. Instead of eating a chocolate chip cookie, i’ll eat a snack bar that is just as enjoyable and has more nutritional value. I haven’t come across one of these bars yet that don’t taste like dessert. So go ahead and balance your life with these Balance bars!

Wrapping Up the Snack Bar

Snack bars should not be the base of your food pyramid. However, they are useful tools for staying on track when you are on the go! Try out these bars and let me know which one is your favorite!
