Calming Bedtime Warm Vanilla Chamomile Tea Protein Shake

Once and a while at night you just want something that is sweet and warm and comforting. However, you also don’t want this bedtime treat to wreck your hard work in the gym. I am the type of person who likes to sneak a snack basically every night before bed. I created this warm chamomile tea shake as a comforting and relaxing shake that is both deliciously foamy and 100% healthy.

Why Did I Choose These Ingredients?

Sometimes I will look at a recipe and wonder why in the world the person chose the ingredients they did. I hate that feeling, which is why I am going to tell you exactly why I choose the ingredients in this warm chamomile tea shake.

Casein Protein

Casein protein is a slow-digesting protein that is perfect to take before bed. The slow-digesting nature of casein will help your muscles recover and repair while you are sleep, plus it packs about 25 grams of protein per serving. I choose the vanilla flavor because vanilla and chamomile were made for each other in my eyes :).

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is a relaxing herbal tea that is perfect for bedtime. The flowery scent and subtle flavor hit all the right notes after a long day. Sometimes, if I am super cranked up after a crazy day, chamomile tea will help me slow down and fall asleep better.

Skim Milk

Skim milk also packs about 8 grams of protein per serving while also adding some natural sugars for the sweetness factor. Warm milk before bed has been a long standing saying when it comes to sleeping well. In this case, combining the skim milk with the chamomile tea is a sleepy time snack made in heaven.

Honey

Honey is raw and natural which makes it the perfect sweetener for this warm chamomile shake. Plus, in my book tea and honey are two peas in a pod, so I just couldn’t resist adding a dab of honey to this recipe.

Cinnamon

I am not going to lie here. I added the cinnamon on top of the warm chamomile shake because it looks pretty. The brown of the cinnamon stands out so nice of the creamy white shake. Despite my aesthetic reasons for adding the cinnamon, the spice carries a host of heart heath benefits that give another good reason to sprinkle some on your shake!
