The Ultimate Spa Day at Home Guide

The ultimate spa day at home is really where it’s at. No strangers touching your feet. No other people intruding on your luxury. No public bathrooms. Just you, a couple books, a bath, some food, and nothing but relaxation. Every woman should get to experience that at least once a month. Now, instead of spending $200 to go do it, I put together the best of everything right in your own house. So, you ready to get started?

Body Movement

Going for a walk and mixing in a little bit of yoga/stretching is a great way to work out the kinks! This aspect is not going to take up a large portion of your spa day at home, but it will set you up for success! Go for a relaxing 20 minute walk first thing in the morning. Then, follow that up with 10-15 minutes of yoga and stretching. I don’t want you to listen to anything during your walk. This spa day at home is all about shutting off your mind. Plug in to your thoughts and just let yourself be.

If you are an experienced yogi or know what type of stretching really helps you, then go ahead and proceed with what you know works best for you. Since I personally am not an experienced yogi or someone that stretches as much as I should, I need a bit of help in this area. If that sounds like you too, then here are a few of the videos that guide me through the yoga portion of the spa day at home.

  1. Sunrise Yoga
  2. Yoga for Neck and Shoulder Relief
  3. Yoga for Anxiety

Food for Thought

Now, I know that I said the goal of today is to shut off the brain and relax, but let’s use our brains just a little bit at first. We kicked off this spa day at home with body movement, now we need some brain movement. Choose a blank piece of paper or a journal. Light a candle that smells wonderful to you. Grab a book that is in one of these categories: self help or fiction. Make sure you have clean, comfy clothes on (not the same clothes you wore for your walk/yoga). Wrap your self up in a fuzzy blanket and make sure your feet are warm in fuzzy socks or slippers.

Light your candle. My absolute favorite candle for this can be found here!

First, we are going to start with the journal. I can sometimes (all the time) get sucked into a book, so I leave that for last. Open the journal or your piece of paper. I personally cannot journal without a prompt. If you can, go for it. If you are like me and need somewhere to start, here are a few of my favorite journaling prompts:

  1. Write 10 things that make you happy.
  2. What do you love about yourself?
  3. Something you are excited for.
  4. What is one thing you dream of doing?
  5. How would you like people to describe you?

Next, we are going to enter the book portion. I personally like to choose a self-help book here, as my mind is more open from the journaling exercise. However, if you just want to stick with all things fun today, then pick a fun book! I am going to recommend my favorite fun books in the Skin Treatment section of this post. Here, I will recommend some of my favorite, not too heavy, self help books!

These self help books I have read, sometimes more than once. These aren’t heavy self help books, meaning that they will make you laugh from time to time. However, they will also make you connect with different thoughts and create realizations that you didn’t realize were lurking in the back of your mind.

Once you have read until you are ready to stop (try for 10 minutes at least). Go ahead and put down the book and blow out your candle. It is time to move into the skin portion of the day!

Skin Treatment

First thing we are going to do is run a bath! A nice warm, long bath bomb bath is another perfect addition to this spa day at home.

I personally use these bath bombs!

Bring a fun book into the tub with you or watch something on Netflix. Whatever you do, don’t scroll through social media. Try to stay off social media as much as possible today!

Once you are done with the bath, coat your entire body with body butter. I personally use this one! This will make your skin feel so nourished!

Let’s focus on that face now! Use whatever cleanser you prefer. I use clean and clear for everything on my face! Start with exfoliate, then cleanse, then acne treatment, then moisturizer! No make-up allowed today 😉

Nail Treatment

I keep this pretty basic as nails are definitely not my specialty. Clip them, file them down, take care of your cuticles, and moisturize your hands.

I like to paint my toenails, as the paint on those doesn’t get ripped off with a barbell at the first opportunity. I personally a bold toenail color person (think dark blue, maroon, hot pink) but you do you girl. Just paint those toenails. Even if no one sees them, you will feel pretty.

If you want to paint your fingernails, go for it! I just choose not to because I don’t care for it.

Teeth Treatment

Lastly, let’s hit those teeth. I know this typically isn’t a spa day at home norm, but I like to take the time to give my teeth extra attention.

If you want to buy whitening strips at the store, do that!

If you want to do your own whitening, try this out! 1 tsp hydrogen peroxide, dollop of toothpaste, 1 tsp baking soda, and water. Mix together and then brush your teeth for 2 minutes. This will work as a whitening agent!

Love this post? Share it with your friends! Maybe you can get a group together and make this a girls day to boot!

Happy relaxing!
