7 Ways to Get Motivated During Your Fitness Journey

Getting motivated to keep pushing in your fitness journey can be tough sometimes. Maybe you have hit a plateau or maybe you are super busy with life. No matter what the reason, sometimes we all need a little extra motivation to achieve our goals. Here are seven way to get motivated and crush your goals!

  1. Set Up a Goal Sheet

When we write our goals down, we are more accountable to them. Writing down your goals will help you get motivated by giving you something concrete to hold onto. You will be able to look at that piece of paper everyday, or whenever you need a boost, and see your goals and your accomplishments. Type your goal sheet and make it pretty to look at. Type in big, colorful font and put boxes beside each goal so that you can check them off when they have been accomplished. Put your goal sheet in a place where you can easily see it so that you stay focused. Set up a new goal sheet every couple of weeks so that you are constantly moving forward.

  2. Put a Picture of Your Perfect Physique on the Refrigerator

Find a person with the type of physique that you are working towards and put a picture of them on your fridge. Not only will you see it all the time and be reminded of your goals, it is an excellent deterrent for snacking :). When I first started my fitness journey, I put pictures of Jamie Eason Middleton and Dana Linn Bailey all over my room, the fridge, and even my school binder to get motivated. Use the photos as motivation to keep striving towards being the best you you can be!

  3. Update Your Playlist

Listening to the same old songs when you workout can get pretty tedious. Try mixing up your workout tunes to get motivated to go hit the gym. There is nothing quite like new music or new shoes to get me pumped up. Since updating your music is significantly cheaper than updating your shoes, I tend to go with music. Try switching up your playlist every couple of weeks to get jacked. A couple of my favorites are:

    1. Closer- The Chainsmokers
    2. Setting the World on Fire- Kenny Chesney ft. P!NK
    3. Shake That- Eminem ft. Nate Dogg
    4. Just Like Fire- P!NK
    5. September- Earth, Wind & Fire
  4. Find a Workout Buddy

Working out with a buddy is an excellent way to get motivated. You not only keep each other accountable, but it adds a competitive edge to a workout. Choosing someone who will push you hard will allow you to get stronger, faster, and fitter. Working out with your partner is a great way to bond with your significant other while increasing your fitness level. Working out with someone also makes many of your excuses sound weak because you actually have to say them out loud. ” I can’t go the gym today because…” sounds a lot weaker when said out loud than in your own head. Find a workout buddy, find new levels of fitness.

  5. Listen to an Inspirational Audiobook

You are talking to the queen of audiobooks. I freaking love audiobooks so much, I listen to them in the car, walking to class, folding laundry, you get the point. The awesome thing about audiobooks is that you can get motivated listening to them any time of the day. Need to get pumped up for work? Check out the ” The 10X Rule” by Grant Cardone. Feeling like you just need some life advice? Check out “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero. Audiobooks are truly a great way to get inspired.

  6. Watch Videos of Inspirational People

On days when I feel like I need a little extra nudge to get motivated to go the gym, I will watch a video of someone like Kris Gethin or Ashley Horner. Their undying work ethic gives me the kick in the pants that I need to get in the gym and give it all I have. Watching these videos can also give you some fresh ideas to test out during your workout.

  7. Mix Up Your Gym Routine

Doing the same ol’ same ol’ at the gym everyday can get old fast. Switching up your routine every 6 weeks or so is a surefire way to stay motivated. Try new exercises like a bosu ball squat or knees to elbows to give yourself a fun challenge. I know that I personally get tired of a plan after about 4 weeks, so I switch things up to stay on track.
